This was an interesting project. It was done for a course called Data Management for the Web which I took while at Politecnico di Milano. I went in expecting to be programming quite a lot, but what it turned our to be was almost a entrepreneurship class. It was heavily business oriented. We formed a team of 4 and out goal was to come up with a startup idea that would be based on big data and data management. We decided to make it a cross platform event/venue recommendation app. Idea was simple. Upon opening the app you’d be asked a few simple questions like: Are you on your own, Do you want to chill out or party etc. Few seconds later you’d get a main recommendation and similar recommendations. It worked nicely because we all also took Recommender Systems course. We had to design everything from architecture to monetisation model. We never made the app, but we took it all the way to being pitch ready. Some more materials below.
